As media question 4- Who would be the audience for your media product?

My music magazine which is called Loaded and is aimed that an age range of around 15-24 year olds and also aimed at more of a male audience than females but that doesn't mean that females wont enjoy my music magazine. This means that a large majority of the audience will be teenagers meaning a lot of them will be in full time education whether that is school, sixth form, college and then there will be people who go to university and have part time jobs who will also be part of the target market. This means that my target market may not be earning a lot of income which means my magazine needs to be an affordable price for people to be able to buy even though they are not making a lot of income. A lot of the target market will have exams they need to be revising for so they can have a good income in the future and have jobs such as Doctors, Builders, Accountant.

A lot of the target markets hobbies and values will most likely be going out with their friends for example going clubbing, watching football, going cinema and also spending time with family. This is the time in life where people want to enjoy themselves as they don't have major responsibilities such as looking after children and so they will be spending money mostly on clothes, alcohol and electronics. This is an advantage for Loaded as people will be interested also in music at this age and so will want to find out information on their favourite artists. They may want to copy the artists style and so will look at the clothes they are wearing and will go and buy that outfit to make them look fashionable.

My target audience will all most likely own a mobile phone and the majority of these people will have an IPhone which is a smartphone made by Apple. They own this specific phone as it offers many different things on their device for example, apps, games, camera and photo albums. An advantage for my music magazine Loaded is possibly having an app as that could increase the amount of people who want to read the magazine. People will use different apps to listen to music such as Youtube but you need the internet to use Youtube so people can subscribe to Spotify or ITunes to download the music and listen to it without internet. They can then go on the Loaded app and read about the artists they have listened too.

As my target market is 15-24 year olds, this means that they will probably group E on the JICNAR scale because most of them are students. There is however another group which could be involved as lot of the target audience will be living home and will be funded by the parents and they will be in ABC1. This could mean my target audience may have a secondary audience of parents so this means that I should include parts in the magazine that the older generation will enjoy as well even if the target audience is 15-24 year olds. I will do this by having a range of artists in my magazine which makes my music magazine mainstream as will include popular artists.

Question 7 Evaluation-Looking back at my preliminary task what do I feel I have learnt in the progression from it?

Question 7 Evaluation by Slidely Slideshow

This Slidely Slideshow shows the comparisons from my school magazine and also my music magazine. You can see the skills I have developed whilst making the products and also the improvement from my school magazine to my music magazine. I have learnt about how to layout my products in the correct way which will make my products appealing to people, I have also learnt how the colours used in the magazine is very important and also the fonts used as this can make my magazine a professional standard. I think one thing I have developed is how a photo can affect the quality of the magazine. I had to take time in getting the right location which I found tough but I feel like I eventually got there.

On Sketch, there were many different tools which I was able to use which made my products look professional. The tool I used the most was the shadow tool on the text. This is because it made the text on my products stand out more. I also used the crop tool a lot as I needed to edit my photos for my products. I used Photoshop for my front cover as i changed the background from a brick wall to a background which I created myself. I used this because I felt like it would look more professional than a brick wall. The colour scheme which I used was very important as the colours need to go with each other and also attract customers. I went for a colour scheme of red, white and black as I felt like these colours would be appealing to my target audience. As you can see, this is shown across all three products.

I have also learnt how to take a photo properly. I spent a long time taking over one hundred photos for my music magazine as I wanted to get a professional looking photo which I could use for my music magazine. I learnt how to hold a camera properly and also the different shots which I could use. A shot I used frequently is a medium close up shot. I feel like this shot works the best for my music magazine so I used it the most. I also used different locations for my photos to be taken. I needed to plan the location as it needs to fit the genre of music I am doing. I used a dark tunnel which I used for my model who is rapper as it links together as people assume rappers being in ally ways and in tunnels. I spent more time taking photos for my music magazine compared to my school magazine.

I have made many improvements from my school magazine to my music magazine and I feel like the changes are obvious. I spent a lot more time making my products for my music magazine as I spent a huge amount of time doing the layout for my products which meant I made sure all the text was in line with everything and that made my products a higher standard compared to my school magazine which I didn't spend ant time thinking about the layout for my products. I also used different fonts which made my magazine look a higher standard instead of standard fonts which everybody can access as they are already on Sketch. I took time on websites looking for fonts which would fit my style of music and I feel the fonts I used fitted my style of music for my magazine. You can see that a lot of time has been spent in making my music magazine products and not on my school magazine products which shows I have improved my skills in using Sketch which I used to make my products.

Double page spread mockup 4

This is my fourth mock up for my double page spread. As you can see I have changed the quote You wont see me coming to make the words different sizes. I have used a watermark behind my text of the model TEEJ to make it sound more professional. I then have TEEJ pointing in the direction of the text to tell the reader of the magazine.

Page Furniture

Page Furniture will help me when I am making my double page spread as I will be able to use the different features of page furniture which will mean my double page spread will improve. This will then mean the reader will enjoy reading the article as things will stand out more.

Double page spread mock up 1

front cover screenshot process

Final mockup for music magazine

I'm using Sketch to create my magazine front cover. I used a medium close up shot for my main image with my model looking straight at the camera. Then I changed the background of the front cover to make it look dark like the character is. I then added the text around the main image using three different fonts in total. I decided how big the text needed to be depending on how important I felt the text was for example the biggest font is the main headline which is Teej and then it becomes smaller as it becomes less important to the magazine.

Contents page conventions

At the top of my contents page I will have the contents banner which will show the name of my magazine in bold white writing. It will also include the date an the website of Loaded where people can go to look at more information on the magazine.

On the left hand side of the page, there will be a column of text which will have sections such as news features and regulars. This will give information on  what is in the magazine and what section of the magazine that article is in. This will include page numbers of where the articles start which will make it easier for the reader to get too. Each article name will be in a bigger and bolder font which will make it stand out to the reader. There will also be a small blurb underneath the article which gives a little but more information on the article.

On the right hand side of the page, this will be where the images will be located and will have a page number on the picture so they know which image relates to that particular article. The images will be different sizes depending on the importance in the magazine.

At the bottom of the page, this will be where the different types of social media are shown and how people can contact Loaded. There will also be a small article at the bottom with a blurb explaining what is in the article. The page number will be located next to the text or the image.

Photos

These are a selection of photos which were part of my photo shoot which I have done for music magazine. As you can see I have taken many different photos in different backgrounds. I have used three models for my music magazine and I directed them so they knew what I wanted them to do in the photo. I think it was important for me that I had different backgrounds as that meant I had more of a variety of photos. This meant that some of the photos I have taken are at a high standard and I picked them to go into my music magazine.
